New Faculty Laptop Rollout
New faculty laptops have arrived and are ready to be deployed. These laptops have new features that enhance security and safety for both the University and your information.
These laptops contain solid state drives (SSD), instead of traditional hard disk drives (HDD). These newer drives contain no moving parts, greatly increasing speed and decreasing disk failure, but are typically smaller than HDD. To accommodate the smaller size, Rockhurst has worked with Microsoft to provide all faculty members one terabyte (1 TB) of storage at Microsoft OneDrive, an approved form of cloud storage for Rockhurst data. With this storage, you will be able to back up data from your faculty laptop and access it from any computer anywhere.
For additional data security, these drives will be delivered with encryption enabled. If, for any reason, your faculty laptop becomes unusable, encrypted data on the hard drive will be permanently inaccessible. This is another reason Microsoft OneDrive is an important component to these new laptops. Data backed up to OneDrive will remain accessible regardless of the state of the faculty laptop.
To begin the process of using OneDrive, you will need to go to hawksrockhurst-my.sharepoint.com. When prompted, log in with your USERNAME@rockhurst.edu and your current network password. (This is the password you use to log on to your faculty laptop and access your Rockhurst email.) During laptop switchout, we will show you how to use OneDrive and backup your laptop data. If you have your OneDrive account created ahead of time, we can get you started more quickly.
